Inside a PLC rack: processor, I/O, and power
A PLC rack breaks down into a processor module, I/O cards, a rack power supply, and the communication that ties them together. I/O cards take the brunt of the abuse: field wiring shorts, inductive kickback from relays and solenoids, and line-side surges routinely blow individual input or output stages while the rest of the card stays fine. Rack power supplies fail from capacitor aging and years of cabinet heat, and often start as intermittent brownouts under load before they fail outright. Processor modules tend to go at the power-supply section, or at the memory-backup circuit that holds the program and retentive data, and either can show up as a dead module, a fault light, or a comms fault that drops the rack off the network entirely. In every case, the failure usually sits at a specific component or stage on the board rather than across the whole module.
Obsolescence is the whole story here
Control platforms outlive their support windows, often by a decade or more, while the machinery they run keeps working just fine. A discontinued PLC with one dead I/O card can stop a line cold when the replacement part is unavailable, sitting on months of lead time, or only sold as part of a full platform migration to current-generation hardware. Board-level repair is often the quickest route back to running, and it avoids re-engineering a control system that otherwise still works just to replace one failed card. That gap, between a plant that needs a working rack and an obsolescence path that offers a project, is where this service fits.
Repair the original, skip the migration
Repairing the installed module keeps the existing program, I/O addressing, and field wiring exactly as they are, with no re-commissioning, no re-mapping of addresses, and no revalidating logic against new hardware. That matters most on platforms where the OEM’s answer to a failed card is a new processor, new I/O, and a migration project, rather than the single component that actually failed. Diagnosis comes first: identifying which stage on the board failed before any repair is quoted, since not every fault is repairable and that’s determined case by case.
Allen-Bradley, Siemens and the rest: hardware only

If a rack needs its program rewritten or a system re-commissioned, that falls outside what this service does.
