What actually fails inside a VFD
A VFD converts incoming AC power to DC and back to a variable-frequency AC output, and each stage has its own failure points: input rectifiers, DC-bus capacitors, IGBTs (the output switching devices), the gate-driver circuit that controls them, and the control or keypad board that reads out fault codes. A trip code, whether overcurrent, overvoltage, ground fault, or overheat, usually points at one of those stages rather than meaning the whole drive is scrap.
Board-level repair vs. a new drive
Replacing a VFD outright means paying full list price and, often, waiting on lead time for the exact model and firmware your equipment needs. Board-level repair targets the failed component, whether a blown IGBT, a bad rectifier, swollen DC-bus capacitors, a failed gate-driver, or a dead control board, and can bring the original drive back into service instead.
