When a fish finder stops finding fish
A fishfinder or depth sounder that won’t power on, shows a black or frozen screen, or has lost its sonar or depth return isn’t necessarily dead. It’s often a specific failed component on the main board: a power section, a display driver, or a corroded connector. That’s a board-level fault, and it’s usually repairable rather than a reason to replace the whole unit.
Screen, backlight, and no-power faults
A dim or failed backlight and a unit that won’t boot are two of the most common fish finder complaints, and both are typically board-level issues rather than a failed display panel outright. We diagnose down to the actual fault before recommending anything.
Transducer vs. unit
A “no sonar signal” complaint can be the transducer, the wiring, or the head unit itself. Part of the free diagnosis is separating those out: if the head unit’s receiver circuit is the actual failure, that’s a board-level repair, and if the transducer or cable is at fault, we’ll tell you so you’re not paying to fix the wrong thing.

Why won't my fish finder turn on?
